Embracing the Rule of 100: A Tale of Creativity, Perseverance, and Etsy Dreams

Valentine's Day Cards - Printable

Have you ever heard of the “Rule of 100”? It’s this concept I stumbled upon while listening to a podcast the other day, and it really struck a chord with me. Essentially, it’s all about giving yourself ample time and opportunities to succeed before throwing in the towel. So, here I am, just starting out with my Etsy store, and I’ve only got four listings up. But armed with the wisdom of the Rule of 100, I’m determined to see this journey through—to 100 and beyond.

Technically, the Rule of 100 states that if you are willing to put in 100 hours, in any discipline, you will be better than 95 percent of the world’s population at that discipline within one year. 100 hours translates to 18 minutes a day. So, 18 minutes a day won’t likely get me to 100 listings in one year, but it will help me develop skills in producing those products and it will help me in heading toward my interpretation of the Rule of 100…100 listings!

Starting an Etsy store was something I’d been toying with for ages. I mean, I’ve always had this itch for design, you know? It’s like a creative bug that just won’t quit, and it takes me back to the good ol’ days when I was knee-deep in scrapbooking projects. So, I figured, why not give it a shot? I’m starting off by creating digital products—things like Valentine’s card downloads and printable date night cards—and putting them up for sale.

Watching those view counts climb on my Etsy page is an adrenaline rush, no doubt about it. But let’s keep it real for a moment—views alone won’t keep the lights on. If I’m going to make a real go of this, I need to start seeing some sales. And that’s where the Rule of 100 swoops in to save the day. The gist is this: keep grinding until you’ve got a whopping 100 listings up. Even if things are moving at a snail’s pace, trust the process because eventually, you’ll gain some serious traction.

The Rule of 100 is all about embracing the journey and giving yourself the time and space to grow and succeed. It’s about committing to the long haul and recognizing that meaningful progress often takes time. With each listing, I’m not just adding another product to my store—I’m investing in my future, one step at a time.

Sure, the idea of reaching 100 listings might seem daunting at first. I mean, we’re talking about a serious time commitment here. But I’m up for the challenge. I know that success rarely happens overnight, and it’s going to take some serious hustle to get there. But hey, isn’t that what makes the journey worthwhile?

One thing that keeps me going is my unwavering belief in the quality of my products. I’ve enjoyed making each and every one, making sure they’re the best I can make them, and I’m seeing my product improve with each new listing. While the road ahead may be long and winding, I’m confident that my dedication and perseverance will pay off in the end.

But here’s the thing about the Rule of 100—it’s not just about hitting a numerical milestone. It’s about the journey—the ups, the downs, and everything in between. It’s about embracing the process and trusting that every step forward, no matter how small, brings me closer to my goals.

So, if you’ve got a spare minute—or heck, even if you don’t—why not swing by my Etsy shop, LifesCountryRoads? Who knows, you might just stumble upon something that speaks to your soul. And who knows, maybe you’ll stick around to witness the momentous occasion when I finally hit that elusive goal: 100 listings and beyond. It’s going to be one heck of a ride, and I’d love to have you along for the journey!
