- Quote: “Let your dreams blossom”
This simple quote inspires me to keep dreaming and planning. Spring is here and the blossoms are coming. With that, let’s continue to dream and make plans of action to bring those dreams to reality!
- Dress Code – through my years of teaching I have seen a steady decline in dress code in the schools. When I first started, we dressed up in dressy business clothes every day. After a while, casual Fridays were pretty common, but every other day you dressed up. I’m not talking high heels and dresses, although those were present…just not on me! But, dress pants (no jeans) and dressy shirts.
Now I can be a bit old-fashioned, but when and why did we transition to jeans every day and even leggings? It appears that many teachers used the online teaching times as a reason not to dress up for work and never went back to it.
My personal feeling is if we want to be treated professionally, we should dress professionally. I don’t see anything wrong with a Friday casual day if the students and parents are seeing you in work clothes the remainder of the week…or on a day you will be doing something messy with your class, dressing more casually.
Let’s get back to a more professional dress code as we fight to change a system that seems not to have much respect for teachers as professionals!
- Stars on Ice – As I was raising a figure skater, we tried to get to Stars on Ice as many years as we could, but lately, it seems to have evolved into an annual thing. This week was no exception. This year was different without Kurt Browning on the ice, but it was still great. There was a group of 10 of us and we went out to supper at Maxwell’s Plum before the show. The little girls loved the show, but man were they tired by the end.
- Looking for a Chicken Coop – This week I have been trying to find a used chicken coop. We went to look at one that was perfect for what I wanted (and it had a beautiful run), but it seemed impossible to get out of the fenced-in yard where it was located. Found another little shed and the person sold it to someone else, even though we said we would be there the next evening. Now I’m in a holding pattern, looking for the right setup. I have 4 pullets ordered for June, so I have a timeline!
- Saltscapes – Saltscapes is a local general interest/lifestyle magazine for the Maritimes or Atlantic Provinces, but they also host a trade show each year. The trade show has vendors from tourism all over the region, some of the wineries and distilleries, some commodity groups, as well as some jewelers, crafters, and other local producers.
Each year we try to go, to see the sights and taste the tastes. We enjoy thinking and planning little adventures for the summer, most of which never happen because of a lack of free time on the farm. We enjoy chatting with people and learning about their products and ideas. This year was no exception. We squeezed a visit in between chores on our Sunday to milk and the dreams and ideas started flowing. One of the things we would like to do is rent a houseboat in Fredericton (Lakeway Houseboat Vacations). We also learned about The Artful Cut where they engrave glass and Peggy’s Cove Glass where they do demonstrations of glass blowing (bucket list thing for me) and have lots of items for sale. Also picked up lots of travel info to inspire our next adventures be they big or small!
