Super Vegetables…My Inspiration!

Inspiration can be found in many places, and recently, I got my inspiration in a most unexpected place. Our 6 year old grand-daughter has been planning to open a vegetable stand this summer. Who knows where the idea came from, but she has been determined!

As our Rhubarb became ready to pick, now was the time. She set up the stand with some help from Grammie and Grampy, Mommy and Daddy, and she was off.

She decided to sell rhubarb and eggs this week, as they have hens on their small farm. She went shopping with her mother to get some elastics to use to bunch the rhubarb, and a marker to make the signs.

She created a video for her mom to post, to advertise her business. And when opening day arrived, she picked the rhubarb, and weighed it, with a little help.  She helped to make some lemonade and she wrote up her price list.  Thankfully a few family members and good neighbours stopped by to support her venture.

Why was this my inspiration? There was nothing standing in her way. She had no excuses or reasons that she couldn’t start her vegetable stand, like she wanted.

She felt no imposter syndrome for setting up a vegetable stand, even though there were people who have been doing it for years, who obviously know significantly more than her.  She felt no fear of failure. Why would it fail? People eat vegetables.

Basically, this ambitious young girl decided what she was going to do, reached out for the help she needed, and did what she set out to do! Pretty amazing for a six year old!

So, why is it that as we get older, we tend to doubt ourselves more? Why is it that we question our ability to try new things? Why is it that we think we don’t know enough or are not good enough to do the things we are wanting to try?

Well Super Vegetables, I’m using you as inspiration. If you can do this at six, surely I can be brave enough to follow my dream of starting a blog!

And that’s part of what I want to share. Let’s talk about travel, food, organization, and how to stay young. Let’s not let society determine the point at which we have to “be serious” and have less fun. Let’s continue to enjoy our lives for all the years we have on this planet!
